Neck pain can manifest in various forms, each with its unique characteristics and causes. Mechanical neck pain is the most common, often linked to poor posture and muscle strain. Cervical radiculopathy results from nerve compression, causing pain, tingling, or weakness in the arm or shoulder. Cervical spondylosis, or neck arthritis, arises from wear and tear of the cervical spine, leading to stiffness and reduced mobility. Tension headaches can induce neck pain due to muscle tension, frequently associated with stress or poor posture. Whiplash-associated disorders stem from rapid neck movement, often in accidents, causing pain and stiffness. Myofascial pain syndrome involves muscle knots and trigger points in the neck and shoulders, resulting from overuse or trauma. Inflammatory neck pain can be related to conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, while infections and tumors, though rare, may also be underlying causes.
